About Us

Discover a new kind of luxury...

Passionate about the unique beauty of the world-renowned Queen Charlotte Sound, the Bay of Many Coves has been loved by each of its owners across the decades.

Originally a family retreat from hectic city life, Robert and Colleen Gilkison eventually moved in permanently in the early 1960s. Capturing the truly special nature of the property, its new owner Errol Christian named it ‘The Gem’ and the opportunity to experience the very best of authentic New Zealand was born.

As our story has evolved, with many more chapters written, we are proud today to enjoy our internationally-acclaimed status as one of the world’s leading luxury lodges. Within our mesmerising natural setting, our guests discover a refreshingly warm welcome and unforgettable culinary memories.

We are all guests of Nature, together sharing in the privilege of the sanctuary that she offers us here at the Bay. Experiencing a connection with the soul of this beautiful place, that’s priceless.

Dedicated to enhancing our legacy of care for this stunning New Zealand landscape, we have planted 13,000 native trees within our 100 hectare site. Delighted to border the internationally-renowned Queen Charlotte Track, preserving our natural heritage remains close to all our hearts.
